Arrrrhggghhhh!!!!!!
That's the first thing that comes to mind when I reflect on today.
Firstly, it was fairly late when we got moving and by the time we finally decided what to do, it was scorching hot out. We went for a walk to the main drag and decided to hire scooters (after much of my umming and arring about whether or not to agree to such a thing). The first guy we asked wanted 200B, so we said nope and kept walking. We went to another lady who quoted the same price and said we needed our passports and licences. Adam had his licence and I didn't and neither of us had our passports.. That to me was a sign.. Telling me NOT to do it, but for Adam's sake I ignored this sign. Not sure that was such a good idea.
We took off into the crazy traffic and went up over ridiculous, mountainous hills which obviously means you have to go down the other side! This was scary as hell for me. The curves in the road freaked me out, and the closeness of the rest of the traffic even more so. As if I wasn't freaked out enough, I had every arsehole under the sun beeping at me! Who ever allowed Thai vehicles to have horns was obviously drunk or stoned at the time of the decision.
So we made it to somewhere, where the traffic was just as crazy as Patong due to the speed at which everyone was driving. Here's me scooting along the side of the road at a top speed of 30kph, trying to avoid being killed. I beeped at Adam to stop so we could decide where the hell we were and where the hell we were supposed to be. Once we did that, we had to go over more ridiculous, mountainous, curvacious hills (AND down the other side of each of hill!). On one particularly narrow and busy hill, I was nearly killed! I was going slow but was as far over to the left as humanly possible. Along comes a big ute type thingy who starts to move closer to me as the road gets narrower, so I slow down even more to avoid death and the along comes an impatient sedan who wants to get past and next thing I hear is a huge screetching of tires and horns and all I could do was look straight ahead and hope to God that the screetching didn't get closer to me and end with me on the road in a heap.
Finally made it to somewhere else, Kata beach I think and had a swim to try and relax, but al I could think about was the damn scoot home.
We had lunch at a nice place (yummy steak and club sandwiches - Miss "western" food) and that was good coz I forgot about it for a while. Then Adam suggested we go further South to the cape and have a look at the view point there... Me.. I wanted to go home and WALK somewhere! Adam was all like "It will be an easy ride, nice and flat and quiet" EEERRRHHH!! WRONG! Much of the same muchness as before! And more of me freaking out and cars honking etc... We stopped somewhere for a breather where I nearly crashed into some old Thai guy. That was embarrassing. The view point was quite nice except we didn't take the camera, so I have no evidence of my survival to that point. After this we headed right for home which was a long journey, since we didn't make any stops. And as before, I was scared shitless the whole way home. Once we got back into Patong TRAFFIC!!! Arrrghhh... It was crazy.. And the beach front street is two lanes of one way traffic chaos. Here's me in the left lane trying to keep up and stay out the way. Of course the turn off to our hotel was a right turn. So bravely, I have to "weave" my way through the traffic to get to the other side and make a swift turn - into a street where you drive on the right side of the ride... Weird and crazy and confusing all rolled into one.
So my day wasn't as exciting as Adam's.. BUT! I bloody did it and I'm still alive! I won't be doing it again (Not in crazy no road rules Thailand anyway)and I certainly won't be ignoring the Gods that are watching over me and giving me clues and signs for some of the many decisions I have to make in life.
Tomorrow, we are doing an Island hop... YAY! We will be visiting a bunch of Islands around the Coast, including "Monkey Island" (where I believe I have a cousin or two there) and we will see wild monkeys everywhere, even swimming in the water. We are set to see crystal clear water and white sandy beaches and some pretty amazing cave and awesome snorkeling. Sounds better than a scooter ride! :P
THEN...
Tomorrow night we are going to see the
Phuket FantaSea show. Looks very touristy and right up my ally!
THEN...
We're off to complete a part of this holiday that I have been waiting for... We're going to stay in a beautiful resort in
Railay Bay where I will be doing... NOTHING! Just lazing on the beach or by the pool or in the spa and drinking delicious tropical cocktails. Yaaaaaay!!!
PS - The place we are staying at here in Patong (Amanta House) is really nice. It's not far from all the action. The room is gorgeous (OLIVE GREEN everything!!) It's right next door to Jungle Boys... A gay bar!!! As I've been typing this blog entry, my sound track has been such hits as "I will survive", Village people songs, Celine Dion and Gay Thai Boy squeels (of delight I guess)...
Did you hear any news about the tourist (who was the only one out of a half dozen or so) who survived a cave flooding in southern Thailand a day or two ago?
Ellianah has enjoyed the Mac computer reading your emails out loud to her. I change the voice to Male and Female depending on who the email comes from. She listens intently and especially like to hear the words "love you, Mummy" and "Daddy" etc. When it finishes being read out, she says "Again?"
Mum and Dad went to see FantaSea and loved it! I hope it is great for you too!
Love you lots and miss you sooooo much!! (How am I going to handle next year????......)
