Railay Bay Resort
So today we are leaving Railay for Bangkok. We have two more nights left of our honeymoon. I think we are both a little over Thailand… or perhaps it’s the fact that we both miss Elli sooooo much.

Our time here on Railay has been pretty good but not without it’s crazy moments.

Where should I start? Perhaps at the beginning?

Ok, so on Thursday morning, we left our hotel at Patong and dragged our bags and our selves to the main strip to wait for another “not sure if it will come” bus. It did come… just as the rain did as well. It rained for most of the trip. So we headed into Phuket Town and got off on possibly the busiest street in the town, I think it was off a roundabout too. So we were harassed for a taxi ride, which we said no to coz they were all trying to rip us off. We decided to get out the map and find the bus station for ourselves on foot. So we head off and got a few beeps on the way… Looking back, it wasn’t far to walk but it seemed like it coz the streets were very narrow and hard to pull our bags along.

We made it to the bus station and jumped on a bus heading for Krabi. On the bus we met a little Thai guy who worked at a travel agency in Krabi who of course wanted us to come to his agency and book something so he could make a commission. We did actually go there and we did book some things and he did make some money but he was also grateful and a little helpful, so we’re ok with it. We had already booked our accommodation for Railay Bay but when they travel agent called, they were told that there was no room for us coz we only booked and didn’t pay any money so they didn’t keep a room for us and it was apparently very busy. So after a bit of messing around, we eventually got a room at Railay but it had two single beds. Not really to ideal for your honeymoon. But we booked it, told them to move the beds together and moved on. We actually got a sweet deal, 3 nights for the price of two… But was it really a sweet deal? Into a taxi we go (with two young Pommy girls – very nice and fun) and off to Aonang to get the boat to Railay. Pissing down rain, we jump on a long tail (not the best boat to catch in the rain) and headed for Railay (which is only accessible by boat due to the huge rocks blocking land access).

We were soaked, our bags were soaked and everything was soaked. The boat driver dropped us at the wrong end of the beach and so we actually went to the wrong resort. So back out into the rain we go and head for the right resort. We check in and at this point we are told that to have the 3rd night free, we must pay for a compulsory breakfast, which was 350B each… RIP OFF!! So the third night was not free after all… But is anyone really surprised? We got a bit miffed at the reception guy coz we didn’t know about this little catch. So we called the travel agency guy and had a bit of a go at him and he said he didn’t know either… So we asked for a free breakfast and the guy said he’d speak to the manager.. and since we haven’t checked out yet, we’re not sure if it was free or not… but it certainly isn’t worth the money they are charging for it.

So, the morning we left Patong, we both took of our wrist bands that were given to us at the “temple in the sky” by the monk and his mate. As it turns out, doing that was not a good idea. We had some great misfortune that followed.

1. The weather was crap as… For a last fling on a beautiful island, rain was not what we ordered.

2. The single beds

3. Being dooped into paying for breakfast

4. Our power kept going out in our room…

5. This is the doozy… We realized that we didn’t actually have any money and though we transferred some into our overseas account, it wouldn’t go through until Tuesday which was useless, coz that’s when we leave. So we walked around for most of Friday morning freakin out about how we’re going to pay for stuff.

At this point, Adam found his wrist band in his wallet and said that it’s been since he’s taken it off that we’ve had some bad luck. So he put it back on.

After a walk along the other side of the island, we headed back to our side of the island trying to think of ways to access money quickly. We thought about maybey trying to withdraw money from the credit card, but Adz couldn’t remember his pin… And there was really no other way to get money in a hurry, especially since the weekend was approaching and the time difference was a pain in the butt too. We saw an ATM on the way back from our walk and I noticed it had the “cirrus” logo, ya know the one? If you have a deit card that also has that logo you can use it. So we shrug our shoulders in a “why not..” kind of way and give it a bang and hey presto! CASH!!! We both just laughed…. After spending an entire night and most of a beautiful day worrying about money… we were saved! Thank heavens for “cirrus”!

So from here on we seemed to have a change of luck. We only had a little more rain and the rest of the time the weather was good. Things were cool. Until….

Last night… I mentioned earlier how our power kept tripping… Well it wasn’t a problem until yesterday and last night. We were having a nap and the power went out, but it didn’t matter as we were going out anyway. We told the office and they fixed it for us. Then when we got home after a big afternoon, the power tripped again and stayed off for a few hours. We told the office who fixed it again and off we went to have a yummy dinner next door at the neighboring resorts restaurant.

When we got home, the power was back on again so we settled in to watch a movie and have a couple of drinks then BAM! Out goes the power. Adam decided to go and investigate and found the safety switch has tripped. So he flicked it back on and away we went, until BAM! Off it goes again… This went on for 20 minutes or so til we got jack of it and told the office again. We waited for 20 minutes or so for someone to come and fix it and they were a no show. So we did the safety switch thing ourselves again and the power just wouldn’t stay on. We went back to the office and told them again and the said, the power was back on and I tried to explain that it wouldn’t stay on. Both frustrated by now, we had to have them see it for themselves, which they did thank God. So off we went to a better room that has a pool all of its own, a double bed (which wasn’t very comfy but still…) and ELECTRICITY! So we had a nice evening watching Superman and sipping scotch (well I was, Adz was having his usual girly drinks) then we slept comfortably in air conditioning. How lucky is that?! After some crappy stuff comes some good stuff.

Anyway…

We also went Kayaking yesterday… And though we had a few “moments” scratching out each other eye balls and arguing, we’re still married and still love each other. We visited another beach and went for a walk to a small cave where we found a shrine for Buddha and a whole bunch of wooden penises… That’s right… Doodles! Some big, some small, some short and fat and some long and skinny. We’re not sure what it was all about, but it was interesting all the same. We’re still curious about this one. We think they might be some kind of offering or else it’s just a local joke to get people like us questioning.

Peace Out…

Let me get this straight, you showed up somewhere on your holiday with adam soaking wet to find you were at the wrong accommodation and there was some confusion about it..... That doesn't sound like travelling with Adam "I forgot to confirm the booking" Royle at all to me :P

At the end of a holiday with Adam you will look back and laugh (not to mention thinking "never again").

Have fun.
