August 23
onward forth to NZ and Tonga!
The plans have officially begun. Ed has posted his maps and made yet another blog for his NZ cycling trip. I just get all gooey whenever I see maps like this. Ed is going to have such an awesome time on his trip, and I wish him the best of luck. Yes, I do think he is crazy, but like everything else in his life, I think he will just go ahead and do it.

Some of you may already know, but at the end of the year, Née, Ellianah and myself plan to have a bit of a vacation ourselves. Ed invited me to cycle with him for a few days in NZ, and much like whenever he asks me to go jogging, I couldn't say no!

However I figured I would have a hard time convincing Née to let me go alone, so I came up with the awesome idea to invite her along too! And as a bonus for being the perfect understanding "wife" that she is, I would take her to Tonga - the one place she has dreamed forever about visiting. How could she say no? Well, lucky for me, she didn't!

The plans so far is that we'll fly from Brisbane to Auckland on the 27th Dec, and stay with a friend/relative of mine. Somehow steal (borrow/hire) a car and drive to Gisborne, allowing a day or two to catch up with some more relatives in time for New Years Eve celebrations in Gisborne (the most Eastern town/city/thing in NZ). From there Ed and myself will set off on our cycling journey to Rotorua, and meet Née and Ellianah at our destination. Spend a day or so in Rotorua seeing the sights, and then shoot off back to Auckland to see some more family, and jetset to Tonga. We'll spend 2.5 weeks in Tonga, and fly back to Brisbane just in time for Née to start work again! YAY!

And to top it off, we'll be stopping in at Hobbiton to see the set of the the Baggin's Shire in Lord of the Rings.

The toughest part (aside from actually doshing out the dough for the trip) is definitely going to be the 3 days of pain spent with Ed. And no, I don't mean cramped up next to Ed, naked in a single bed in some dodgy hostel, praying for a hint of daylight to shine through the window so I can get the FUCK out....

The 400-500km ride is going to be tough! I have clocked 200km on my bike since December last year... so to do double that and a bit in 3 days is going to KILL ME. I can't wait!

Being the person who likes to be totally organised for everything, I have already contacted people from the Hospitality Club to host us while we'll be in Rotorua, measured the distance to travel, figured out all the dates, travel times and all the prices. Let's hope it all pays off in the end....

UPDATE: I have a new page that you may wish to visit.

Here! Here! I have only been waiting to go to Tonga my ENTIRE life.. So we might want to have a going away party, coz I might not come back!! I am so excited! I think it's going to a really fun and adventurous trip, but for me, it is also going to be very emotional... ya know... Roots and all...
