last night in paradise
Today was pretty relaxing. As you may know from a previous post, nothing happens on Sunday except for church and eating. We walked into the King's Church this morning to listen to a Tongan sermon. Well, we really just went to hear the singing. I guess there were a few hundred people there, and the singing was just incredible. They had a brass band which added a lot of bass and tone. Amazing!
Afterwards we were invited to an 'umu (Tongan feast with food cooked in the ground), which would have been awesome, however our host Steve had already organised for one of his friends to drop over some 'umu'ed food for us to eat. It was delicious although I couldn't eat too much. It was very starchy and quite filling. We had some Lu (Lu pulu and Lu sipi - corned beef and lamb wrapped in a taro leaf), which was great.
Nee and Steve went for a nap while Elli helped me clean the last bits of dirt from my bike before I bring it through customs in Australia. I also took the opportunity to really secure my bike in the bike box so it doesn't get destroyed through Sydney and Brisbane airports. Tonight we went for a walk down to the bakery to pick up some more bread and dough-nuts and muffins for the flights.
I'm getting sleepy now, so see you all soon! For those interested, we arrive at the Brisbane Domestic Airport at 4:25pm. It may take us a little while to get through everything.
Hope you've enjoyed reading my novels of late. Unfortunately I think my blog posts will go back to boring, small and infrequent pieces of text after our arrival back in Brisbane. Malo aupito!
