ants in a microwave
I've got a bit of a dilemma that I've been battling in my head for a few days. Recently we've had a bit of a problem with ants in our kitchen. If we leave out some food sitting on the bench for three days, sure enough, we've got ants all over the place. They also love my honey bottle so much, I have been forced to build a moat around its base.

Ants have also been camping out in our microwave. I don't really mind them staying in the microwave, though, as they don't leave any mess behind (and more often than not, they're cleaning up my mess!). However, I am faced with a dilemma when I wish to heat up some food in their new home.

Since I was a young lad I've been very aware that ants are just like any other animal, they have families and babies, etc. I get very guilty whenever I kill an ant, whether it's by accident or on purpose. This guilt diminishes pretty quickly though, and it's usually not long before my next homocide.

I have to ask the readers of ifunk.net, in a situation that I face almost everyday, what would you choose to do when you have ants in the microwave? Do you:

a) Wait for the ants to leave on their own time before cooking your food
b) Squish the ants with your finger (and remove the carcass) before cooking your food
c) Just cook your food while they're still in there

After a bit of research (I asked Dave - from the coca-cola caper (also an ant story)) and a brief look on google, I discovered that a small number of ants in a microwave will avoid the microwaves emitted, therefore mainting their state of life. What is your method, a, b or c?

We're top of the food chain my friend.

I say d) get some wet paper towel and wipe away, no more ants :)
I don't have the guilt with ants, they are too annoying.

We had the same problem a while ago....we would do what Jo said....wipe them out first...it never got all of them though. And yes they don't die when you turn the microwave on!!!

"A single ant, or even a few ants, can simply walk around between the waves of energy, making their way from one safe area to the next, and avoid getting nuked. If, on the other hand, you put a thousand ants in your microwave and agitate them so that they are running around in a panic, you will, without a doubt, see many of them turned to toast."

hahaha...to funny you are Adam! We chose both option b & c....get your revenge anyway you can we saY...the closest thing you'll get anytime soon to eating anything different besides your 'dog' menu. We had the same problem...ant baits inside and out side....and baby talcum powder on the benches ...THEIR TRAILS, is suppose to help...it worked for a while for us! So while your in the kitchen...feeling a bit smelly...then just rub some talcum powder all over yourself....multipurpose! See you bro!

We have a major any problem in our bathroom and toilet atm.. they are everywhere.. Our solution- sprinkle talcum powder (and having Elli living there im sure you have a heap!) around the area (eg. microwave) and Tada no more ants.. they hate it.

so have u tried it? Did it work?
- Danni
Well, I have noticed there are no ants running around in the talcum powder (or around Elli's bum for that matter). I've now discovered that ants will stay out of the microwave if you leave a bit of meat blood on the bench.
