Nee Festival 2007
One of my favourite events each year is our group camping trip over the Queen's Birthday Weekend. Traditionally we would go to Bigriggen, a camping ground in Rathdowney, however they have changed owners and frankly, I think they stink.

The other day I sent them this email.

Hi Debbie & Guy,

Myself and a large group of friends have been visiting Bigriggen for the last 5 years, and wish to continue to do so. Usually we get around 20 people over the course of the weekend, however people's availability varies each year. Because of this, it is difficult to comply with the new rules of pre-booking with 100% deposit for all of our guests. I am wondering if this rule is strict, and if we are able to pay on arrival? Unfortunately if this is not the case, we will be forced to find a new campground.

Cheers,
Adam

And they replied with this.

Adam,

June long weekend 2006 we had trouble with two of your group - Damian Hollern and Ryan Hollywood - with "hoon" driving in and around the Park. Keys were confiscated and vehicle had to be left outside of camping area, and the offenders being asked to leave. As we are a Family Park, that type of behaviour is not tolerated, therefore it would be best for all concerned if your group did find another camping ground.

As for the new policy of pre-booking with pre-payment for long weekends, campers have found it to work extremely well, in particular with the streamlining of the registration process when we have 1500 campers all arriving at the one time.

So you might think, yeah that's a fair comment! But the thing is... I've never heard of Damian Hollern or Ryan Hollywood in my life! Now they've destroyed my reputation at my favourite camping ground. Actually, hooning around a campsite is nothing compared to what we get up to each year.

Needless to say we won't be going back. Abby sent me a list of camping grounds around the same area, so I'll see if I can find a suitable place for us to go this year. If anyone has any suggestions (no beach camping, sorry) let me know ASAP.

The dates for our this year is from 8-11th June, so make sure you keep the date free!

UPDATE!:
We have found a new camping spot for this year.

Adam, I know of a great camping ground up north past Maleny, situated in the middle of Kenilworth rainforest on Booloomba Creek.

It's about 2.5/3 hours drive from Brisbane, with about 30 minutes on dirt roads... but it's true wilderness and firewood is provided free. So we wont need to go off looking for fallen down trees to drag back.

I have not been there in years but Booloomba creek runs through all the camping grounds except camp ground 4, but it's only a short walk away.

Also lots of rainforrest walks that head off in all directions for miles.

It is worth noting that it packs out during the holiday periods, which is not so great.

Camping grounds 1&2 have showers + toilets, 3&4 have toilets only.

Cheers
- Mitch
Ed and I went camping at Kenilworth and it was a really nice area.

I can't believe those people from the other camp site...they suck!
- Andrea
PS - I'd be writing back to them and setting the record straight.
- Andrea
I am keen to go anywhere within 4hours drive. I have already booked time off work to get there early (assuming i am invited).

Just make sure you get organised.

What do you have against beach camping?

Let me know and I will be there with everything you forgot.
- Ed
Im with Andrea.. email them back and abuse them- politely of course! hehe. They funking suck.. oh well. Hastings Point is awesome and pretty close.. Pottsville is OK too- gotta put up with all the hippys though.
- Dannii
Yeah I did write back straight away but the cowards didn't get back to me. Stupid fucks.
- Adam
Oh, and I'm not going beach camping because I can't stand getting sand in my grit.
- Adam
I dont know of any beach camping grounds that allow you to have a fire, so that is a good reason
- Mitch
Yeah, thats pretty rude of them. The only person we've had driving around like a hoon is ash :P
